Which Scan Tool or Software?
I get on pretty well with JLR SDD and iCarsoft i930 on my 2005 Jaguar XJR and my 2013 Range Rover.
I will say that the JLR SDD is a real pain to set up and use however it has saved my a lot with the Jag and have used it to reflash the transmission and adjust the suspension.
It also saved me with the Rover in pinpointing an EPB issue so that I was able to tell an indi exactly what the issue was, a wiring issue, which beat me as far as fixing goes.
The indi pointed out that a VERY common wiring issue occurs behind a plastic cover in the rear wheel arch. The Range Rover forum people had NO CLUE!!
That is why this forum is so much better .
Actually going to pick up the Rover in an hour. I did get them to do a fluid change on the transmission.Way more complicated than the Jag. I am getting too old for this stuff.

Although sometimes difficult to install and not always easy to handle, JLR-SDD and IDS are very powerful tools for diagnosing and eventually reprogramming our Jags.
We are very lucky to have these tools easily accessible and cheap, not the case for other brands.
Sometimes a good dongle (VCM or original Mongoose) is required to avoid possible hazards when a difficult reprogramming is required, but otherwise even a clone Mongoose does the job!

If you buy a used laptop, a Mongoose Pro cable, the software, say v130 or 131 or whatever, not a lot if you know what you are doing.
I have a setup with two HDDs one with jlr v159 and one with v131. My 2.6ghz laptop cost $50 bucks. The Mongoose Pro I lucked out and got a new genuine one for $75.
One version. 130 needs Wxp and the other 159 W7. Both a pain to set up and VALIDATE with Microsoft.
Also JLRSDD that I have will time out. So I run FREEZE on both HDDs to keep the time as set in August 2012 I think.
THEN if you wnt to program something you need a good battery support gismo so that you dont run out of power during a long programming session.
That gismo cost me over $200 bucks the most expensive item of the lot.
This is the package of v131.03 (the last version that runs without requests of redirection to Topix) and calibration files (you need them also for the installation) that I bought from a reputable provider.

Better to buy these DVD's separately from the Mongoose to avoid possible corruptions and virus from those provided freely when you buy a clone Mongoose, and install them on a dedicated old laptop running under XP Pro.
Date also frozen on August 2012 and no access ton internet once the installation is finalised

Just a side note. V159 of the software that I have does not request redirection to Topix and runs off-line under Windows 7 with updated service packs.
I ran both versions on my Rover and the v159 gave me a lot more in the way of options when diagnosing the problem I had with the EPB.
When installing either W XP or W 7 on my laptop I had to validate with Microsoft otherwise I would either get a not valid message all the time when running or even get locked out.
You have to have a valid Key and even then I still had to phone a number to get a lengthy code to validate the installation.
