Default Security & Keys question

Hi All,

I only received one key with my X350 XJR, so I got an auto-locksmith out to cut me a new spare key.
The key he provided does not look like the original Jag key (apparently he couldn't source it )

But the new key actually looks & works well, it looks more modern and I'm using it now and keeping the original as "master spare"
It only has 3 buttons, so the "head lights on" function I cannot invoke with this key.
All else works - remote, button functions (lock + double lock / unlock / boot open) , unlocks steering lock when inserting, starts car, manually unlocks driver door, etc etc.

The only odd thing is that almost every time I unlock the car with this remote, the car give me two alarm beeps in short succession. I can't figure out what that means, e.g. the alarm did not trigger during locked period, and the key does what it should do. I've tested and that does not happen with the original key.

Any ideas or pointer?

Thanks!

From the Owners Manual, maybe this will help identify source;
Two audible signals will be heard
whenever one of the following conditions
are present:
• If any door is open when an attempt is
made to lock the vehicle.
• The luggage compartment or the
hood are not properly closed when an
attempt is made to lock the vehicle.
• A key is present in the ignition switch
and a button on the transmitter is
pressed.

This won't end well. Buy an original used key to use it for electronics, a locksmith will only make a new tip again, then You will pair the new key with the car and everything will be fine.

None of these conditions hold - in my case it happens when UNlocking the car, after it was locked successfully.
I haven't checked what happens if I lock with 1 key and unlock with the other - will give that a try

Hi Leon, there is a remarkably thorough sticky in the General Info section on how the (unique) Tibbe key, transponder, and fob work, located at https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...mation-255778/ .

If I am reading your original post right - I'd be suspicious of the clone key your locksmith made up for you. Matching the Tibbe key cuts is apparently an art form, a quick Google of "Jaguar Tibbe Key" will lead you down a rabbit hole of how these are cut and programmed. However, there are on-line services that can cut Tibbe keys to order, example here; https://triple-c.com/How_To_Read_Jag..._Key_Codes.cfm .

The two beeps can be caused by either the hood or trunk closed switch not being made properly (electrically open) even when hood/trunk closed correctly.

Thanks ctsemicon,
Long before I ever got the guy out I read up all about these keys. I have a .doc that I found on this forum, or perhaps somewhere else, that contains all the info in the links.
Mine is the 6-cut key (and thus only 4096 combinations!). I read the code off the original key & later confirmed my number to be exactly right at my local Jaguar dealer.
There is nothing wrong with my Tibbe key cut - the (mobile!) locksmith had the correct little machine.
First he used the machine to read the code off my old key. (which I secretly confirmed against my known value)
Then he put the machine into "cutting mode" and cut the new key.
He did plug a diagnostic machine into the car, but if I remember you need a jaguar specific tool to code a new transponder into the car. I suspect he cloned my existing transponder into the new key instead (that seems the way they do it often) (the keys you can buy online often come with a blank "program once" transponder chip).
The remote button circuit he programmed to the car - in the same way I could do it (a series of steps with the car itself)
All of that works 100% - the key feels good in the ignition & all functions work.

I do agree about the tricky cutting - Iater I ordered a correct looking key from AliEpress. That seller said he could cut the key from a picture of the original! (must be possible with enough pictures, seeing that I could read my code off the key) I provided the T-code and paid the little extra for the cutting.
That key is cut quite roughly, it does work (turn the ignition) but I am worried it will wear out my ignition because it does not feel good. So I'm not using that key (still needs to be coded anyway).
I might order another blank just to keep in case I ever need another, but the same local locksmith would need to come and cut & code it.

But anyway my issue is none of the above, the 2 beeps are when I successfully unlock the car which was previously successfully unlocked

Regards

they generated a ford 3 button remote with vvdi. use a real ford or jag 4 button remote if you want it to work like it should

I totally agree with xalty's comment.

Keep in mind, there are several notes in the service manual that different markets (i.e., US, euro, ROW) may have different responses on lock/unlock, and, there are several options available as customer preference available when programming the individual car via SDS. Section 419-01A of the service manual lists 10 pages (!) of potential options and responses depending on market car was made for.

Best regards
