Self-Fixing Jag
Am I dreaming? (X358 problems that have fixed themselves)
1) I have contributed to posts about air suspension going down, mine did for quite a while, go down over say a week. It now stays up rock-solid 2-weeks without use.
I Did Nothing.
2) 6 months ago, my left-rear window would not Auto-raise, however much I tried. Never mind, it's only the Auto setting. Today I tried again for the hell of it, and it Works Fine.
I Did Nothing.
3) I have seen the left-indicator...turn left...headlights go out problem (when I first bought the car). Never seen it again in spite of trying.
I Did Nothing.
4) I sometimes get the wipers stopping at half-swipe, but then they work fine again "most of the time" and no amount of testing is useful.
I Did Nothing.
5) The Y-rated current tyres are about $600 each. Gulp. But I was just enquiring for the fun of it...there's still plenty of tread.
(Y-Rating=300kmh/186 mph=LOL) Although it's not a nice feeling to eventually downgrade to something cheaper.
I Did Nothing.
Before anyone gets the idea my car is perfect, I did have to spend $750 on some coolant hoses etc to fix a leak. However, because that was done by a service agent I can rightfully claim...
"I" did NOTHING !.
I expect I am pushing the Gods with the above claims of self-fixing, but I Love My Jag!

You remind me that I once read that Napoleon Bonaparte only answered his mail every 30 days or so, because he found that by then most of it had answered itself. Perhaps the rest of us are worrying too much about maintenance issues and should simply follow your lead and "Do Nothing" and see if our Jags fix themselves!
Regarding the tyre/tire speed ratings, bear in mind that the heavier/stiffer sidewalls of Y-rated tyres were taken into account by the Jaguar engineers as they designed and tuned the suspension, and tyres with less stiffeness in the sidewalls may not handle as crisply. Also, even with the all-aluminum monocoque, an X350 is still a relatively heavy car, so before considering tyres with lower speed ratings it would be prudent to confirm that their load ratings are similar to that of the Y-rated tyres your Jaguar was equipped with from the factory.
I've had good luck with speed-rated tyres from companies like Yokohama, General, Dunlop and Kuhmo that tend to be more affordable than brands like Pirelli, Michelin, Continental and Bridgestone, so it's worth considering all the brands that offer the tyre size you need. Tirerack.com tests tyres and has lots of consumer ratings so I always begin my research there.
Cheers,
Don

Thanks for the Tyre Y-Rating "Other Stuff" - much appreciated.
Although I have no need of new tyres yet...just looking into it! Cheers
P.S.
"Perhaps the rest of us are worrying too much about maintenance issues and should simply follow your lead and "Do Nothing" and see if our Jags fix themselves!"
Well, if you haven't, then you wouldn't know! (all my accounts are factual in the limited timeframe of 2yrs - Sample of One)
(Electronic issues can certainly fix themselves, perhaps by wiggling connectors inadvertent or otherwise, in my career as an electronics tech I claimed credit for them As Well!)
(Including being called out because of a power failure to our computers...there was a linesman up the pole outside)
As to the self-fixing electric window, the almost certain reason (for the fix) was some connector got "juggled" on a bump whatever or one of the many computers "reset" or equivalent for reasons unknown. But "fixed itself", it did. Please don't be too harsh on me! (whimper)
As to my air susp fixing itself, I don't know of course, but it seems likely that a moving part i.e. an air valve, eventually cleared itself of some "grit" or such-like, or in any case "better sealed". I have no idea why you would be skeptical about this.
The only thing I can remember about Napoleon Bonoparte, is that he used to ask his women not to wash when he came back from a campaign. Ewwkk, just as well he didn't own a Jag.

If you keep doing nothing, that car will be perfect. Can you swing by and do a whole lot of nothing on mine, assuming you have the leisure time available? I agree that the air suspension fix was the most miraculous. As for the window, after every battery disconnect/reconnect they need to be run fully up and held for a sec to put a load on the system, manuals say run it to the bottom as well, but up seems enough in my experience. I forgot or did one rear window incompletely and it would not auto-up until I re-did the sequence.
On an only slightly related note, I am often annoyed that the different in pressure required on these window switches to alter between auto-up/auto/down is about .000001 lbs/feet and getting them to just go down an inch is usually accomplished by running them halfway down, all the way up, a quarter way down and FINALLY getting the gently touch required for manual operation. Especially when they have not been moved in a while because the break away torque required to start them moving is enough to engage auto, resulting in the sequence described previously, accompanied with an ARRRRRGGGHHHH! For all my awareness of how limited Fords influence (and part bin contributions to mid 2000s Jaguars, they certainly play a part in these switches. Sure they are reasonable reliable - but anecdotally my buddies mid 90's Thunderbird had window switches that did this exact same behavior. Ahh well. there are worse things to deal with in life. But its still annoying as hell.

Yes it's easy to Auto-window when you don't want to. But I had a definite fault coz both the driver's console and individual door switch wouldn't auto, so it wasn't a mechanical switch issue. And I never "reset" any computers by disconnecting battery whatever. And I'm not known for "lucky".
(thanks for the tips on similar problem or if it happens again, of course)
"If you keep doing nothing, that car will be perfect."
That's what I figured too. I know just enough to be "Dangerous". I admire you guys who really rip stuff apart..
"Can you swing by and do a whole lot of nothing on mine"
I'd be very happy to bring my sleeping bag and Coddle your Cat in your garage whilst you're away. I'd need to know where the keys are, just for emergencies you understand.
