Default Shaking at highway speeds

Hi, I own an automatic 1996 XJ6. Recently, after driving my car in a hard rainstorm, was driving to school the following morning, I put my car in sports mode, and put my foot down on the gas, just like I do every morning. This time my car stalled, and I was stuck in the median with a transmission light, and an oil light. I turned the car off and on a few times and the lights went away, and I was able to drive again, except now I had a check engine light. Now, every time I approach highway speeds (50-70) my car and steering wheel shakes for about 3 minutes, and then stops. I don’t know what’s wrong with it, and I can’t take it to my mechanic right away because I have prom next Friday and I wanted to take my car to it. I was wondering, does anybody have any idea what is wrong with my car, I’m only 17 and don’t know much about cars, so I am turning to you guys for help. Thank you all who reply!

Read the codes - some auto stores such as AutoZone do it free or get an OBD tool.

Andy - Ah ha ! You've posted in the wrong subforum, this one is for the X350 which was from 2003 to 2009.

The forum for yours, 1995 to 1997, is the X300 sub-forum.
