Shift solenoid clicking and reverse lamp flashing
Hello,All
I working that repair the automobile.
A month ago, I took care of my 2002 XJ8 (X350) for repair.
Customer complaints
The gear lever cannot be moved for 10 to 20 minutes after turning on the ignition.
Clicking on the brake pedal produces clicking noise from the gearshift solenoid.
If the timing is good while the shift solenoid is clicking, the shift lever can be moved.
The reverse lamp flashes when the shift lever is put in reverse.
During that time, "electrical system failure" is displayed on the instrument cluster monitor.
It was that.
I first renewed all the fuses.
But there is no improvement.
While the reverse lamp is flashing. You will hear a click on the relay from SLCM.
The reverse lamp is activated by a relay in the SLCM via the SCP network.
The gearshift solenoid is driven by BPM.
After about 20 minutes, they will disappear as if nothing has happened and work properly.
I've been thinking about Jaguar for a long time.
I noticed that all these anomalies were SCP networks.
We continued to look at their live data using a diagnostic tool (Autel DS808).
In BPM, you can see that the feedback of the gearshift solenoid is flashing when you press the brake pedal.
I rewrote the used BPM data that I had (the engine could not be started with data from a different car) and replaced the BPM.
Result is? ? ?
Again nothing changed.
Next, observe the live data of the instrument cluster.
I discovered that the trip computer switch live data was flashing during these failures.
Yes, this was all the culprit.
I disassembled the instrument cluster and generated and evaluated the circuit diagram.
As a result, I found that the voltage regulator in the circuit was broken.
The IC in the TO220 package, 70025FB, can be replaced with the L7805.
I was so happy that I wanted to report this to everyone.
I hope this helps you to keep your precious Jaguar comfortable.
Thank you.

Welcome to the site,it looks like you fix your own things when you can, good for you.
