I would have bet any money that in the past when I unlocked the car at night the lights under the side mirrors both illuminated, along with the interior lights. I noticed I'm only getting interior lights now. But the lights under the mirrors do work when I put the car in reverse. Schematics call those lights "approach lights" so I think they did used to operate with remote unlock. Can someone please confirm?

Just tired locking/unlocking in the garage, mirror lights work fine. Not sure what happened because last night in a dark parking lot they didn't work. When I unlock in sunlight the interior lights come on but not the mirror lights... I believe this is normal. Maybe something is going wacky with the sun sensor. Although the auto lights are working fine.

On the schematics, the puddle lights appear to be the 4 lights in the bottom of the door panels. Jag calls the mirror lights approach lights.

 

Its peculiar that they would fail just the once, then again we have seen stranger things on these cars.

I was tempted to swap them out for brighter LED's like this DIY, but the light assembly is sealed with an incandescent bulb in there, and once opened I am not confident I can sea it water tight. I do have one spare light assembly from a mirror I replaced when the Mezak/Zamak alloy mirror fram turned to literal dust. Here is the original DIY if anyone wants to try it. I don't trust the resealing of the plastic lens to the small plastic housing but if I get a left side spare I willl give them a try.
