Small Retainer on Cam Stud
The pictured small plastic retainer sits on a threaded stud which is the top of one of the driver's side cam cover retaining bolts. It doesn't just slip off & can't be unscrewed. There appears to be a place to insert a brakes spoon or screw driver to "lift" it off. Can anyone please help with this. While it doesn't look essential, I would prefer not to break it,
Does it have a name repeatable in polite company?
Hi Steve,
the worst that can happen if you just pull it off is that the plastic threads get damaged a little and that afterwards the thing does not sit as tightly as before, so actually not a big deal.
But look closely at the part that goes around the cables: very often this part can be opened and closed again and you should be able to see a kind of release. Activating this release can be a bit fiddly, a small screwdriver can help.
If you are able to open it, you can then just unscrew the whole thing from the bolt.
Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures.
Best regards,
Thomas

Thanks, Thomas! Makes sense. I am hopeful of having both covers ready to receive the gaskets when they arrive on Monday. Naturally, my better half, friends & Grands have other plans for me.
