Hello. I have a small scratch on the plastic around the air vent at the center of the dash (where the clock is). It's not bad, but I'd like to paint/color it in. However, the "black" color used for these items does not look pure black, but more of a dark smoke (near-black). Does anyone know what color it is to match it to some paint or a fill-in marker of some kind? What would you use to hide a scratch on the "black" plastic in your Jaguar?
That surface is kind of soft to the touch and is not shine at all. Should be some black matte but is hard to tell. I'll try to find information about it.
Thanks! I appreciate it. I want to avoid taking the entire unit out and spray painting it, if possible. It's not that big of a scratch. But the white-ish plastic shows through the scratch.
I have a similar issue, the problem is that you can't just repaint since looks like could Peel off. That plastic is not originally black, it's just painted as well. The way to go would be removed, sandpaper the original paint as much as possible and then repaint. If I find something else I'll let you know.
Isn't that bad, but the fact that the vent is black and that base is white make it more noticeable.
Yeah. It's just such a pain to remove that piece. You first have to take out (or at least loosen) the center console, then you have to remove the wood veneer trim, then you have to remove the plastic that goes around the gauges (as it's right edge is screwed over the center vent/clock piece), and THEN you can finally unscrew and remove the vents. Hah! If it were actually black, I'd just use a sharpie to hide the scratch. :P

I would also use a sharpie of similar, I have done the same on a friends classic bmw and also his classic merc , it is virtually not noticeable unless you know where to actually look, similar to a touch up on the outside car paintwork I suppose.
You may want to do it several times maybe.
I'd touch it up with a sharpie. Dis-assembling dash parts does not often turn out well. Little plastic bits usually end up breaking.
That's exactly why I don't want to do that. The center console is the easiest part, but the vent... That's another story, and the wood could easily get cracked in the process. All that is worse than the little painless vent. You guys are right about trying first with the sharpie
