Red face SOS locked boot, battery disconnected!

OK laugh! I'm trying to! HAHA.

I've been trying to track down a transmission fault, and thought I'd disconnect the battery to reboot the electronics.

So, then I er.... closed the trunk/boot lid!

Can I use jumper leads and get power from another battery?

I presume I'd put negative on the engine block and positive.... would go where?

Talking Locked Out...Not Really!

Fear not...you're not really locked out. If you stick your head down by your bumper and look up at the aft edge of the trunk lid, you'll see a receptacle for your key just to the right of center. Insert your key pointing straight up and turn, and the trunk will unlock. (I had to do this once when I hadn't driven the car for 2+ weeks and the battery went flat on me.....).

I knew a guy this happened to. He called a local garage ....(I kid you not)..the "mechanic" removed the number plate and cut a 2.5 inch hole in the bootlid behind! Well he got it open .........dunno whether to laugh or cry.

I also got stuck with the boot lid whilst on holiday. Unlocked boot, but had a case of wine in other hand resting gently on rear wing, but it was also on the bootlid. So lid came up, but not far enough, and I end up with a lid that won't now open, and won't close either ! Like most busy people, I have not read absolutely everything there is in the Owners Handbook, so had missed the bit about the key slot in the boot lid, and it is not visible unless one looks for it. Back at the holiday home, read the book, and Doh, how did I miss such a simple thing ? (what an idiot I would have looked at the dealers); inserted key and turned and up came the lid !!

Maybe we should have to pass an official Jaguar exam on the handbook to make sure we have read it.

Hi, my boot got stuck shut with 3 valuable violins to deliver to customer and all my weekend shopping. Looks like the solenoid stopped working and no visible keyhole but after 24 hrs of panic discovered keyhole on the left of the XJ6SPORT label on the right of the boot lid you would never notice it if you werent looking for it, thanks for your post Haggis.

I only noticed it when I was searching around trying to track down a trunk leak.

I drove my 2001XJR for 2 years before I learned that the emblem on the trunk lid was a push button to open the boot. I was at a car wash and the guy reached down and opened it and I had to take a double take. Boy was my face red...

First thing I do when I get a new (new to me) car is read through the owners manual. Saves a lot of headaches later.

I read that manual as well but I guess I missed a few things. This forum has really helped a lot.

When all else fails.... read the manual.

I guess my brian doesn't work well with manuals.

But I can search on the internet no-problem.
