Default Strange Codes

My 2004 XJR is riddled with strange codes. Such as FF 535800 and FF 056700. Anyone know what they are and how to get rid of them? I am using a Autophix 7310 J/LR code reader. A hard reset has no effect on them. Clearing codes with the code reader has no effect either.

Hi Sprite,

As an inexpensive option to your Autophix, if you use an Android phone, try the Torque Pro app coupled with an ELM 327 Bluetooth OBDII adapter (many options on eBay).

If you use an iPhone, try the DashCommand app and a WiFi OBDII adapter (also many options on eBay).

With these apps, you can read all the Powertrain-related (P-prefix) diagnostic trouble codes on your Jaguar. You just won't be able to read the proprietary Body (B-), Chassis (C-) and Network (U-) codes.

Cheers,

Don

Thanks Don
I can read all those codes with the Autophix Code reader it is a Jaguar/ Land Rover compatible reader. What I would like to know is what are these FF codes and how do I delete them?

Either the FF codes are spurious, or possibly may be engineering codes that are not meant to be used for normal diagnostic purposes. If your Check Engine Light or other warnings are not illuminated, I wouldn't worry about those codes.

Cheers,

Don

Random DTCs are also commonly caused by a failing or weak battery.

Use a voltmeter to read the battery voltage across the terminals with the ignition off for at least 30 minutes. There should be a minimum of 12.6 volts indicated by the voltmeter.
