I have a 2002 Base XJ8. I had it up on a rack and the diff was leaking bad. Looking deeper the left wheel had some vertical play and the shalt into the diff had some excessive play, about a 1/4 to 3/8". I haven't been able to get any answers. There does appear to have a little negative camber.

I believe that a retainer inside the diff has broken allowing the play of the output shaft.

I can't see how the negative camber can be adjusted. There is a lower control arm and the drive shaft and the rear strut supporting the car but the strut does not seem to be part of the rear suspension geometry.

Can anyone help me out here?
