Adjust differential pinion play ?
Hi Guys !
My XJR '99 has a fair amount of pinion play , felt when breaking<>pulling up.
I double checked if it was the diff by turning the driveshaft by hand , clunking noise came from the diff.
Question ; is it possible to adjust the play with the two rings on both side's of the diff (see picture) without opening ?
If so ,what is the right procedure ?
b.t.w. my diff is still on the car , the picture is from some market-site
Thanks !!!
Marcel

No you cannot, and pinion bearing preload is set on the pinion nut after removing the driveshaft and jurid coupling. You need some amount or slack or youll burnup gearsets and have alot of whinning before you do.
