Sudden acceleration
Excuse me for starting a new thread about this, but my search did not produce any posts with this title.
I have read a few posts on this forum about a sudden acceleration problem by Jag owners. I had heard of this problem but never experienced it.
When I was test driving my XJ8 in January it happened twice! I was coming down a hill approaching a red light. When I stepped on the brake the revs went up and the car surged forward. I said, "What the heck was that?" Then it happened again!
My other daily driver is a Ford F150. It has a considerable separation between the accelerator and the brake pedal. Upon examination I saw that the XJ8 pedals are the same distance from the driver's seat and very close together. So I solved the problem (almost) by simply making sure that my right foot is inclined to the left upon braking. I said almost because three days later I did it again due to inattention. I ran my windshield into the bottom of a toll gate at a parking lot.
Fortunately, the only damage was to my pride.
So, this is a driver problem rather than a problem with the car. At least in my case.

hay there from the sound of it you have the ZF lurch on your box it is very common fault and i wouldnt be worried. Normally is 99% cured but a software reflash at a Jaguar dealer. My XJ had it when i got it and thought it was the ABS playing games but then after little search found out about the lurch and asked my local dealer to fix. Few hours later got car back shifted great and no more push forwards at the lights. This website should give you some more information for the sounds of it you have lurch type 1 not 2. Jaguar S-Type ZF Gearbox Lurch fault

However, I have been able to "cure" my problem by making sure that my size 10 EE width cross trainers are angled to the left when I brake. I seem to have hung the edge of my shoe on the accelerator while pressing the brake. Low tech to be sure...but it works.
