I finally caved and brought it in to the Jaguar dealer and I just learned that the cause was a bad power amplifier (BTW, that was my initial inkling). That's the good news. The bad news is that the part is $1100! As if that wasn't enough, they charge 2 hours of labor to install it. (What they don't know is that I removed it and replaced it once already and it took me about 20 minutes.)

Well, all this is just unpleasant because my 100K mile Select warranty expired 3 months ago and the car only has 34k.

Really love the cat, but no one ever said that love is easy...
Yikes you should have taken the car back and replaced the unit with one from EBAY. I bought one for $100 thinking that was the problem. But I sent it back after trying it and having it not be be issue. Like I said it was the changer. I had a hunch since the Changer did not appear in the display when I pushed the button.

Default 2004 XJ8 fm antenna

This is Jaguar male to standard motorola:

Car Antenna Connector Adapts aftermarket radio to factory antenna connection - antenna adapter - vw antenna adapter 40-EU10 METRA

And then back

Adapts aftermarket antenna to factory radio 40-EU20 METRA

No hacking or cutting needed.

Has this been confirmed? I just picked up my XJ8 last week and was going to add an RF modulated Bluetooth setup. I took apart the dash and pulled the radio to find one little tiny antenna plug at the bottom left corner (so an adapter would be ideal). But normally I would cut it and hardwire into it. But there was a sticker on it that said something about "nav" I didn't want to cut it just in case it was the gps antenna. Then I thought of going straight off the antenna mast when I realized that there is no standard antenna 😳 So needless to say I got frustrated and put it all back together for now. Can someone confirm that these are the correct antenna adapter and that little plug in the back bottom left corner of the nav unit is the actual fm antenna?? I'm desperate at this point.

Thanks!

This must have happened to my car at some point before I owned it, because I've always wondered why there was sealer along that seam.

Sounds similar to issues I'm experiencing too!
See my thread here, what I've done so far and where I'm at.....

Thanks for excellent content here in this thread. I have lost all sound too. My car sits on a hill facing downwards so water sits in the critical area! I have used a black sealant from Halfords in the UK £5. Granville. Very easy to apply. My Jag is X350 XJ 2003. I am breaking my old 1997 XJ8. Do you think that the amp out of the boot / trunk would be compatible?

Again thanks for tips. (2003 XJ X350). I have now replaced the amp, which had suffered from water. Mine was labelled 2R83-18C808-AJ. It is an 'Alpine'. I believe that the final letter is irrelevant as are also fitted in some X types and S Types. So I widened my scope by searching for 2R83-18C808-A and ended up with a 2R83-18C808-AC which worked perfectly. Just hope that the sealant works well enough!
