Default Transmission failure

2004 XJ8 was towed to my shop. Transmission case has a hole in the side of it. Owner gave me the title and left. Body and interior are nearly perfect. I hate to just take it to Scrap. Looking for suggestions in this group as far as how to make the best use of the car from a spare parts perspective. I’m not looking to make a ton of money or anything like that. I just hate to throw away a car that has lots of good parts that I’m sure people need.

Where are you located.
trannies are available second hand not too expensive in the uk and should as well in the us..
THEY CAN LAST A VERY LONG TIME AND MILES
my 2003 xj8 4.2 is currently at about 230.000 miles with two oilchanges .
Zf6hp26 in all x350 x356 x356 Jaguar daimler and Vanden plas engines 2.7 tdvi diesel , 3.0 v6 na 3.5 v8 na 4.2 v8 na and 4.2 v8 sc . Minor differences in the interior of tranny going up with engine power.
look aT the descritio plate on the tranny marked with" 4.2 na "to be able to find correct model .

I am in Martinsburg, West Virginia, USA. I’m not interested in fixing it, but hate to just scrap it. It’s a 78,000 mile car that runs fine, has a good body and interior. But needs a transmission, and it’s sitting on the ground so I assume it has a problem with the air suspension system.

I would consider taking it, swapping tranny and flip it on BAT, unfortunately I have no place where I can work on it; also I would have to factor cost of divorce!

The air suspension can be ditched and swapped with a standard strut setup for a reasonable price. Since you have a shop you can swap the tranny and a bit of money.

If fixing is not an option, and you don't want to send it to the closest scrap yard, you basically have 3 options to consider:
  1. Sell it as a project car as-is and let someone else swap the transmission--easiest but you will get least money
  2. Part it out yourself--this will take lots of time and effort. there is definitely a market for all parts (interior and exterior, mechanical and body) on these cars as most are NLA from Jaguar.
  3. Sell it to a specialist Jag breaker who will part it out. Obviously you have to find one close enough to make transport economical.
Honestly I would swap the transmission and sell it as a running car as others suggested. If you are a repair shop this should be relatively easy with access to a lift, trans jack, etc.

I am just down the road in Winchester. Do you still have the car and are you parting it?

I sold it to a fellow shop owner, a Euro Specialist in Cumberland MD. I think he’s parting it out. What do you need?

The trunk latch motor is the biggest thing that I have been hunting for. Other than that, some various interior pieces if it is the Sand (ADX) trim.
