Default Transmission fault light

Got an amber transmission fault light today, car has been driving fine and it went away after I restarted it, could this be a random blip or is time to offload it before things expensive?

66400 miles, 04 XJR

Thanks, Damian

I think you referred to limp mode. It may be as simple as a sensor glitch or could be heads up for an upcoming failure . Mine did light up yesterday as well. It was hardly moving but once you get up to speed you feel no drama at all .
I drove home and killed the engine , started it off no lights same as yours

Although it depends on the fault code, most times these warnings are cured by a transmission control software reflash. Have you had any 'rough' changes at all. 2-3 is the usual one

I'd had one rough change a month or so back but nothing recently - is a transmission reflash something the dealer would have to do or could an independent do it?

I think I preferred the old days where the only lights were oil pressure and the your engine has just exploded light
