Well, I'm taking my 04 XJ8 in for the transmission squeak in the morning. Service writer seemed to be aware of the problem and the TSB. I hope it is covered by my Select Edition warranty.

If it is the typical problem it should not be that expensive anyway. It calls for replacing a quart of trany fluid with some other additive. Should not be too hard to do.

 

I just had mine done under warranty, squeek is gone.. Replaced a quart of tranny fluid with some other additive stuff.

 

Was it Jag warranty or Select Edition?

 

I am at the dealer shop asI type this. They first told me that it is not covered under Select Edition and would cost $260. I questioned this as it is a powertrain issue and they are now talking to Select Edition. There is a revised TSB over the one I got off the forums. Wish me luck!!

UPDATE: Well it was not covered under S.E. They said that fluids are not covered.

 

Select Edition warranty covers all electrical and mechanical. Fluids and wear parts are not covered. The problem with Select Edition as with pretty much all extended warranties is that there are enough loopholes/excuses that enable the dealer and jaguar to say stuff isn't covered unless its something very obvious like an engine valve.

 

260 is not too bad.

It is my impression with all extended warranties that they do their homework and exclude everything that can potentialy break. I had extended waranty from Chryseler: for 4 years they coveres stuff for about $600, the warranty cost was $1100.

On average you end up paying more than the warranty covers - it's just a business and it's for profit.

 

I had the additive put in my xkr. It can only be put in once and if the squeak does not go away you will need their cooperation. In my case the next stepwas a new transmission and radiator. Big Bucks!
