Link was slow but worked and have a burned disk now using dual layer DVD however upon further reading I am concerned about trying it as it does not seem to be compatible with my 2001 xkr as it is not touch screen. Any knowledge anyone has would be appreciated and thanks again for quick response. I just purchased my Jaguar and it is great to have found a site with both knowledge and kindness

Default NAV data disc in my 2005 XJ8

I just bought a 2011 / 2012 Nav data disc for around $50. I received it in a few days and it works fine.

I believe it is the newest release available right now. If you want the contact info to see if they have any more available please PM me.

The newest disk for your 2001 is the 2003 disk, as Jaguar's nav system supplier stopped making the units in 2003. That is one reason the change from Navigation to Triple-Gauge is so popular.

So, I'm jummmm

I know some of you might be tempted to post a link to Rand-McNally's two dimensional map store so, if it makes ya feel better, go ahead

Cheers!

JAGUAR XK XKR 2007 – 2008 / 2009 - 2010 NAVIGATION SYSTEM DISC, PART # 6W83-10E898-BD .
I bought the above thinking it would run in my 2005 XJR Of course I was wrong. I was able to get the correct version 2011-2012 on Ebay for $50,
So I have the XK DVD available for $10 if anyone is interested. Someone is selling it for $89 on Ebay. PM me if you are interested.

Default Update DVD for XJ 2008 nav system.

Indeed, the 2011-2012 DVD was the last one sold by Jaguar and parallel sellers. As Jaguar stopped production of the specific Jaguar DVD at HERE (actual provider of maps updates for Jaguar) there are no more updates since 2012. I experienced several stupid surprises driving through europe this summer with non existing roads, indicators in conflict with nav system etc. So the system is from now on useless. I believe that this scandaleous for a car that sold till 2009. Jaguar wrote me hat lack of sales of the DVD was their reason not to provide it anymore. When are they coming with the message that spare parts are not available anymore due to lack of intrest?
The easiest solution is a cheap Tom Tom (which today is much more powerfull than the nav system in the Jag which was overdue.
Regards,
Martin

HUH??!!??

No, I jest. I didn't realize that the earlier XJs used a different system. Sort of like the older 97-05 XKs used an outdated system with no updates after 2003.

Default Oldish thread I know...

I just bought the latest (2012) for US & Canada here: 2012 JAGUAR - NORTH AMERICA MAP DVD

for about $50 + shipping. Will update the thread when I receive it, but I don't expect any troubles. This is after contacting the local dealer and they said they no longer carry it but pointed me to that other site that does them for $199.... bugger that for a lark!

Anyway, first post, suppose I should go over to the intro section and get my hellos out of the way. Looking forward to sharing in the knowledge here, and dispensing such when I have any to dispense LOL.

cheers
Adam

I guess we need some to figure out how to incorporate a lifetime update tom tom/Garmin/ etc.. to the jag nav system. Would be a shame for it to fade into obsolescence. If ever I sell my Cat, the current Nav won't be a selling feature. It's not like a cassette deck you can switch out.....is it?

There is a business problem in spending money creating an updated navigation disk, when people can copy the disk and bootleg it, undercutting you.

Worst case, you might only sell one disc.

Even if the update disks could not be pirated or bootlegged, I think there is a far bigger problem with the business model when they think they need to charge $200 or more for the update disks. Other than a few Rolls Royce or Bentley owners, Who do they think is going to pay that when you can buy a portable GPS for that price?

I bought my XJ new in 2004, and at the price Navteq wants for upgrade disk, I went until 2012 before I saw fit to buy an upgrade, which I did buy directly from Navteq. It would seem, that is the one and only update I will be able to get for the car. I can't imagine too many others who bought their XJ's new seeing the value in spending $200/update disk any more often than I did. And I would imagine even fewer who pay used prices for XJ's are going to think of spending that sort of money on an update disk.

Navteq's business model for update disks seems even more suspect for less premium car models. If I remember correctly, Navteq charged $225 or $250 for an update disk to my ex's Acura - which again I did buy directly from Navteq.

Sure, portable GPS's can't dead reckon, and don't integrate into the dash and with the rest of the car as well as factory integrated GPS systems. But in all other respects, portable GPS's work so much better, have much more current and better map data, and are much cheaper.

Can you update me on your purchase? Did the update disc operate properly? Any issues?
