Hi I am new in this forum.
I am in Hong Kong. I have been an BWM fan for quite some time. Nowadays there are more and more BMW on the street and you really don't feel the uniqueness on the street by driving a BMW.
I am considering to buy a 2004 XJR with only 70000KM on it. The owner said all 4 suppension struts are replaced in about 24 months ago. The car has replaced by 20in wheels. It seems still providing perfect ride.

Here are questions:
1. There are not many of this model in Hong Kong (may be only 10 to 20 X350 XJR). With the supercharge engine, what could be most diffult to maintain compare to the XJ8 model?
2. Which items of this car should I be looking at to easily tell that the car is in good condition?
3. Other then the suspension, is there any other expensive parts of this car I should check to make sure they are still in good condition?

Thanks all.

Don't forget the air suspension compressor behind the LH side of the front bumper. Its piston seals wear out long before the unit is scrap, and from your mileage, you are about due one, unless it has already been replaced.

The 20" wheels will give a harsh ride, but you no doubt already know this. I don't think there are any other issues really, although being a luxury car, all parts are expensive, but there's plenty of stuff on the internet assuming HK allows imports freely.

Not that I think you will need it in HK, but don't forget the heater problems. Do check that it has had the coolest changed at the correct intervals and that heat is available on both sides of the car at the same level. If not then a new matrix/aux pump is needed.

Thanks both.
I dont understad the heater part. Do you mean the coolen must be changed in the correct interval? For the heat from both side of the car, you meant the heat blow from both side of the vent must be the same? What is the the price of a aux pump? Thanks

I have a choice of going for XJ8. The same year of X350 could be only half the price of a XJR. What would be your thought? If it the same comparing between an 2005 545i and 2005 M5? Their price difference is more the double.

If it was me, I'd have the XJ8, the XJR is nice, but I doubt you could really use its potential in Hong Kong. There is also the additional complexity of the supercharger to consider for a 10 year old car. However, at this age, the condition of the car is the most important thing, so if the XJR is in better condition and has been better maintained, then go for it.

If it's in good condition go for the XJR, the whine of the supercharger will put a smile on your face everytime....ask me how I know

There are a few other little issues that X350 owners (an potential owners) need to be aware of, I guess it's time we made a sticky thread to list them all out.

I took a view to two XJ8 today, year 2007 (x350) and year 2009 (X358) both are like new at only 30,000km on the clock. I looked at the front suspensions and the arms with a torch. They are all like new on the cars. The X350 is at a better bargain which 10% cheaper than the 2004 XFR.

Couple of questions:
1. The suspensions on these XJs are never replaced from new. How much longer can they last?
2. The sales guy said if the suspension worn out, there is "air cushion" part in the suspension can be replaced without replace the whole suspension. Which is 20% of the suspension cost. What could that be? it is true?
3. Is the sport mode button for XJ (like XJR). Is it fun to use?

Personally, I don't like the later restyle, but its an individual thing. I am surprised the 2007 is only 10% off the price of the 2009, I would have expected it to be a lot less.

Check the service records and take a test drive before making up your mind. Is black the only colour choice ?
