Default Wanted: 2004 Engine Tray part source

Hi,

I have a 2004 XJ VDP, and am missing the big engine tray from underneath. I have read in the forum of others buying a new one for a reasonable price ($130 in a few cases) and referrals to parts sites, but I can't find one on any sites I check.

Anyone have any ideas on where to find one?

Thanks!

Do you have any Jag breakers near to you? Bits like that typically cost around £20 in the UK.

If not try a main dealer who should be able to order you one in. The part you want is C2C37000, and it retails for £120 in the UK.

Haven't had the tray on mine for 50K miles. It has never posed a problem, even in wet weather.

Thanks xDave. The part number is very helpful. I hadn't found too many used parts dealers in Florida, but will renew the search as I got a quote of $200 plus shipping for an OEM new undertray.

Thanks trosty. I'm only considering it because the independent shop I am working with thinks it is important. They have impressed me with their skills, as they found an issue with my car that had apparently been amiss for YEARS, and other shops had consistently missed.

Seems that there was a blockage in the rubber tube to drain the sunroof, and water infiltrated under the rear seat, severely corroding an electrical connector. The corrosion caused disruption of the electrical signals from height sensors, shocks, wheel sensors, etc, which the previous owner spent thousands trying to repair by replacing all those parts. These guys found it in about 90 minutes and have permanently solved the problem. So if they want me to find an engine undertray, I'll give it a try.

180K on your 2004 XJ8? That is awesome. My VDP is at 93K, and when this repair is complete, I"m hoping I'll get years of service like you have.

The under engine cover provides a fixed support for the front lower cover from the front bumper area, protection from road debris and aids in lower coefficient of drag, albeit small, the underside of the vehicle contributes, and lastly some modest sound insulation.
