Warranty for Super v8 ?

I would go mfor the 5 year warranty if I were you... the number of things that I had to change at 4.5 years more than outweighs the cost of the warranty... Of course some of these may be due to the previous owners of the car but it gives you peace of mind if you're going to keep the car long....

If she behaves, I wouldn't mind keeping her for a long long time. I'm selling my 06 Civic SI which is a pain to get my 14mth daughter in/out of the car. So we wanted to get a sedan and the Super v8 just happen to be at an unbelievable price so I had to buy it. The Jag currently has 30,8xx miles so it averages out to about 6k miles per year. Doesn't look like the previous owners thrash the car in anyway but I would like the piece of mind. Especially after reading about air suspension and throttle body issues. So I'm leaning towards purchasing the warranty - either through Chrysler or AAA.

I absolutely agree with the warranty on these cars, but it is like any other insurance - you loose if you never need it, and you loose in another way if it has to pay off. But most of us still buy insurance because a small loss is a lot better than the surprise big loss.
However, a lot of those warranties don't pay off well. I'd strongly suggest you find an independent shop and interview them as a prospective customer first. Find out what they have to say about different warranty companies; that will keep you from being surprised. And read the contract VERY carefully! I had a place recently try to sell me a guaranteed "bumper-to-bumper" warranty on an 04 XJ8 recently, but when I read it, the contract specifically excluded air suspension components!
When I bought the 2007 last month I got a 4/50 total coverage for $2,800, and a 5/50 was about $1,000 more. So the price you mentioned for a 5/50 on a much older car is outstanding, but only IF it really covers everything.

What Goose said.
These insurance policies are meant to make money for the insurance company, not pay out on policies, and tons of statistics prove they are a money loser to the policy holder. Like any insurance, the company carefully studies what it is insuring, along with the probability and cost of repairs. They create contracts and pricing to maximize their profits and minimize the payouts. Simply put, the more they insure the more it costs.
These warranty extensions are definitely not for me, but I understand people buy them for various reasons. So the point of all my rhetoric - know the details of what you are buying, what is covered, what is not, the deductible, against what you pay for the premium, then pray the insurance company doesn't go bankrupt before you need them which is common practice.

Both great points. I had a 100k extended warranty on my SI and at 81k, have only used it once to cover my rear wheel bearing. Then again, the SI extended warranty was only $600 bucks.
I'm going to do the same thing with the JAG, I'm going to ask a list of items the warranty DOESN'T cover rather than a list of what the warranty covers. This way I know exactly what I'm paying for. I'm so excited and can't wait to pick it up.

Don't be too scared. I bought a 2006 Super V8 with 20,000 miles on her and I've now driven another 20,000 in just over two years. So far, I needed to have the transmission flashed. Other than that, two services at 30 and 40,000 and oil changes in between those two services. Just fitted a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus to replace the POS Pirelli P-zero's that were put on when I purchased. More or less thesame expereince with my 04 XJ8 that I drive for 80,000 miles with only two minor non-warranty repairs after the 4/50 ran out. Total for both was about $300.00. The SV8 was a Select Edition, so an extended warranty was included. If I was buying from a third party (not a Jaguar dealer) I would certainly get the warranty. Probably won't need to have it unless you don't buy it. Hmmmm, you're getting it so the kid will fit better. That's why I bought mine. My son is 6'9" and the back seat of a SV8 is a good place for people like him.

warranty
So I did it! I got the warranty, it's a 5 years / 70k miles for $2800. There's a $200 deductible and everything is covered, suspension components, supercharger, navigation, dvd in the headrest, etc, etc.
All in all I'm pretty happy and even more excited to pick the car up. They're registering it on Friday so hopefully I will have it by next weekend.

The only thing about these extended warranties is that it does not cover the "wear and tear". Now, I know all of you are saying "sure, that's a given".
However, let me tell you my story, at the time, I just purchased a 07 VandenPlas 33K on the odo. Barely a week out of the Jaguar showroom, I noticed a clear, oily leak so I took it back to Jaguar, it's the transmission seals. Jaguar first thought that this car was not one of their "Select Edition" (which it was but their computers was not updated yet with the details) and was going to estimate a couple of Ks for the repair. I told them it was and the extended warranty was purchased as well and the technician referred to the fine print wording that this issue is not covered under the extended warranty. So I read the fine print and it does not. WTF. However, this was moot as it was a Select Edition vehicle, just that their computer data was whacked and it helps to call the head Sales Manager direct.
However, the moral of the story is to read the FREAKING fine print especially what's covered or not.
My 07 came with 3 more years of Select and the Extended Service Protection for another 3 yr with a $100 deductible and I think it cost like $3250 or something like that.

Extended Warranty
Here is a summary of research done with a few Extended Warranties..
For 2006 XJ8 with 37K miles
AA Auto Warranty aka AA Auto Protection
5Yrs 100K Royal Protection Plan Bumper to Bumper Exclusionary Warranty $100 deductible
Administered by Royal Automotive Group
$4285 includes NAV
.
Warranty Direct
Not a broker, they administer their own warranties
Luxary Care exclusionary bumper to bumper
4yr 100k with $100 deductible 6329 or $0 deductible $6779
4yr 85k with $100 deductible $5669 or $0 deductible $6019
Covers wear & tear , NAV, bluetooth
.
Nation Warranty does not offer coverage for Jaguar
.
CARCHEX ( division of CARFAX )
5yr 100K with $100 deductible $6093 excludes NAV
4yr 100K with $100 deductible $5489 excludes NAV
Adminitered by Royal Automotive Services <- note: different than Royal Automotive Group
plus $325 for NAV coverage and will refund $300 at end of term
includes enhanced labor rate meaning if shop rate exceeds $85 per hour they cover it.
Includes wear & tear i.e., gradual reduction or parts
.
General Motors Protection Plan
Jag coverage cannot be offer directly to consumer by GMPP.
I called directly and they would not extend coverage on Jag.
Must purchase through dealer.
Local Jag dealer suggests GMPP is easiest to deal with
4yr 85K with $100 deductible $4900
requires inspection...cost $126
Struts are excluded however, service manager claims GMPP covered Air Spring replacement.
covers seals and gaskets
GMPP Major Guard contract is available on web.
Full refund within 60 days.
.
Additional Notes:
Called random Jaguar dealer and checked with service manager
They were familiar with both
Royal Automotive Services ( e.g., CARCHEX )
and Royal Automotive Group ( e.g., AA Auto Protection )
I am considering the GMPP.
Thanks, Bob
