What does this modification code mean?
I just bought my first Jaguar, a 2004 XJ8, yesterday. Today while I was tinkering around under the hood, I noticed a sticker/label mounted just above where the left front air suspension bag bolts on. It was a lined Jaguar label on which someone had written "Modification done," then it said either JE04 or JC04. I'm not sure whether the second letter was an "e" or a "c" because the mechanic did not write it clearly. There was also another number that I think was some kind of facility location code.
Does anyone know what that modification might have been or what it might have involved?
Thanks for your input.

Welcome to the forum and X350 ownership.
That is probably J004 which was a recall for a range of 2004 and 2005 MY cars (G00584 – G49700) to update the Engine Control Module and in some cases the Transmission Control Module as well:
Situation: A number of emission regulations non-compliance issues relating to the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system function covering thermostat diagnostic, calibration verification, in-use monitor performance ratio, and an emission issue relating to open loop smoothing (vehicle remains in open loop after fuel cut-off for prolonged periods) have been identified. In addition, a group of deficiencies have been identified within the OBD system function related to the evaporative leak diagnostic.

Thank you. That's good to know. It very well could have been J004. That second character was hard to make out.
