Default What is this gizmo in front of the throttle body?

Sorry for the lame question, but I can't figure out what this oblong black box is that connects just in front of the throttle body on the throttle body inlet plastic "pipe". It is "loose", and I had to put some electrician's tape to hold it in place and "seal" it. I'm wondering what it is, what it does, and does it have a "flexible" mounting onto the inlet plastic pipe? There was some damage to the front by the PO, so I don't necessarily know if the way it is now is stock.

I've been digging through my service manual disk, but have yet to find it (I know it's somewhere in there, but I just can't find it yet).

Thanks in advance.

^^^What he said!

It's just a plastic box which helps to reduce intake noise.

However it might well be causing you problems, if there is a vacuum leak where the electrical tape has been applied, try to seal it up well.

It appeared to be "connected" with some sort of "putty" (or so it seems). At any rate when I pull the throttle body to replace the thermostat housing tower, hoses, and belt, I'll figure out how to seal it.

Thanks!
