In march, i took a little vacation back home from where im stationed. I did amazing on fuel in my 04 xj8. I filled up from about empty, and my range apparently was 430 miles. I drove 569 miles before I was right at empty again. Traveling on the interstate at around 75 mph, i was averaging 29. Mpg varies alot on conditions and guess all the variables where just right. I typically drive my xj to and from work, 23 miles per day, plus i use it for commuting for any other business. Filled up three weeks ago, went 506 miles on that tank, around town driving.

@Clamdigger I've yet to make a trip to the Motorsports track. I hear good things about it though. I'm on the other side of Millville, but the 4th Fridays are usually pretty nice! Enjoy!

Are you guys using Imperial Gallons or US Gallons???

For example 10.0L/100km = 28.25mpg (imp) or 23.5mpg (US) it's a big difference.

I got some interesting mileage in the XJR from London to Switzerland.

I filled up in the UK with Esso Supreme 97 octane, this got me to the Dutch/German border, driving across Belgium I was getting around 11-12L/100km (23.5-25.7mpg)

I filled up with Shell V-Power 100 octane at the Dutch/German border, and got an impressive (to me at least) 10.1L/100km (27.9mpg) from there back to the Swiss border.

It should have actually gotten worse since I was driving (much) faster in Germany than in Belgium? Must be the fuel...

Default 2004 vdp

I bought my '04 VDP on January 31st of this year and I have recorded every fill-up. My cumulative mileage is 18.92, with a high of 28.8 and a low of 18. I mostly drive around town or short trips to the golf course about 10 miles away. Very happy with mileage. 119739 miles on the odometer now.

Default 2004 4.2 XJ Super V8 LWB Auto (UK)

Overall average fuel consumption as shown by the dashboard computer varies between 23.5mpg after several short journeys and 25.0mpg after long journeys. I think this is acceptable for such a large engine. I use Shell Fuelsave unleaded petrol which contains a mileage improvement additive (so they claim!).
Fantastic motor though....

My 04 Vanden Plas is magical. City driving only for pretty much it's whole life, consistently getting 24 mpg. But I'm in Canada, so call it 11L / 100km.

Default 05 Super V8

Coming out of Florida I managed 27+ till I got to Md and hit the stop and go traffic. From then on I'm getting anywhere from 22.8 - 23.9 on my average trip of 105 miles round trip to work.

2006 Super V8 (US) 4.2L SC

City = 17mpg
Best on a gentle run = 26mpg

It actually returns better gas mileage than my 2000 XJR... yet it is larger and more powerful. I guess thats what all the Aluminium fuss is about

I get an average of 25 mpg in daily driving and on a cross country trip on cruise control at 70-75mph in the winter (no AC), it will average 33-34 mpg.
