Default What is This Part?

What is this and where does it go:

This was in the pocket of one of the doors. I don't recall what it belongs to on the car ... where it goes ... anything. It's not large - 3.25" across at the widest spot and 2" tall. Any help would be appreciated.

My vehicle is a 2006 Jaguar XJ8, btw.

While I'm at at, what's this one:

It's soft (thick foam) and about 4.25" long. It was sitting in the garage and had come off the car (2006 Jaguar XJ8).

Thanks for letting know what the rubber piece is. I have only one and cannot see another under the hood.

Any idea what the actual name for this part is? I only have one of them (the one in the photo) and I'd like to try to get replacements, if possible. I've tried various searches, but I'm coming up empty so far ...

Just took a quick look under the hood of my 2005 and see no sign there was foam glued to the hood or engine panels. Wonder if this is a per model add on for luxury...or added on some years?

Where mine was, there is no evidence that anything was ever there ... no glue residue, etc. So, perhaps yours had fallen off a while back ... maybe before you ever got the car?

I've had my hood opened and closed a lot over the past few years and, to be frank, I've not noticed that I needed these installed. Even so, if they came with the car, I'd like to have them, if possible.

Regarding the foam pieces, have a look here:

https://parts.jaguarlandroverclassic.../brand/jaguar/

If the link does not work, Jaguar just calls them "seal" and the part numbers are
C2C14115 (RH)
C2C14116 (LH)

Best regards,
Thomas

Thank you for that. I appreciate it.

Question - How important are these "seals"? I've been driving my Jag for years without them and haven't even noticed they were missing.

Hm, I'm not sure about that.

On my car there was one missing, so I have bought them but was not yet able to replace them. What I have noticed is that at high speeds (and here in Germany I can often travel above >160 kmh up to top speed), the bonnet starts to flutter or wobble. After having set the bonnet locks correctly it became less and more in the area where these foam parts should be, so I hope that replacing them might cure things further.

I've not had this experience and I've had my Jag up to 100 MPH (160 kmh) at one point. Typically, I am travelling at 60-70 MPH (95+ - 110+ kmh) with no shutter or wobble from my hood.

True, with the speeds you are usually travelling it is not an issue.
Best regards,
Thomas

My RH one is missing, with no glue marks to show it was ever installed. Maybe they saved £20.27 on the new build!
