Default why does my alarm go off , help before the neighbours start to moan

Hello Guys, I am new to the forums and a 1st time Jaguar owner of a 2003 XJ6 sport and loving it ,however just wondered if anyone might know why this is happening: the alarm goes off about 5 minutes after locking the car at the end of my journey, its happened about 3 times out of 10 and each time I unlocked with the key fob and locked again and seems that does the trick but I dont want to wait around for 5 minutes each time I park the car to find out if the alarm will sound again. I thought it was a tiny buzzy insect which I saw at my drivers window a few days ago but it wasnt him, since I let him out of the window at 70 mph. Any clues as to what else it could be?............before the neighbours start to complain!

While mine is a 2004 XJ8; I had a problem like that. My hood switch was going bad and it would set off the alarm. I figured it out by seeing that I would get "HOOD OPEN" warnings when it wasn't open.

You can scan the security module for last alarm activation but you will need dealer level diagnostic equipment. The DTC will be 'B' codes for Body codes.

Hi,

in my car it was the hood which did not lock in correctly. I could not open it but the alarm thought that it was open. I cured the problem with plenty of WD 40 one year ago. For this time it is ok.

Greetings

Tom

If you see the "hood open" message on the dash panel like I was seeing, the problem may lie with the switch another poster referred to. I cleaned mine with electrical contact cleaner at the Dealer's suggestion, and did make it about three days without a fault. I then removed the switch (which was located under the driver side hood latch) and stuck a short piece of wire into the female connector thereby "jumping" the leads, and taped the jumped connector up with black electrical tape. This totally solved the problem.

it has happened to me, too.
it was a sensor in the hood that went bad.
sorry i don't know the code #, but it didn't cost me much. under $40~50.
here is the link of mine when i had the same problem.
