Smile x350 folding mirror retrofit

Hello all, I have a 2004 XJ8 and I want to add power fold mirrors. I have searched everywhere and cannot get a clear answer on what is needed to do this upgrade on my car. I bought two power fold mirrors, a new master switch and a driver door control module (from a wrecked VDP model). I do not have NAV or front parking sensors, as I have seen people mention these items in their vague discussions on this topic. Is it possible to do this? If so, do I need any relays, coding or other items? My current mirrors are auto-dim, with passenger side reverse dip, just not power fold. Please help...thanks in advance!

Adam2fl;

I haven't done this myself but here are several thoughts...

Do you already have 12 wires to the connector at the door mirrors? Fig. 10.2 of the MY04 Electrical Guide shows an input signal (DD12-8) and two output signals (DD13-5, DD13-6) from the Driver Door Module. If you toggle the input 'on' do you see a response at the outputs.... and at the mirror connector? If so, I think you should be able to do this. If it were me I'd try it with the existing Door Module first.

If you do not see a signal, you'll need guidance from someone familiar with the control module - maybe this is an optional feature that needs to be enabled with SDD.

Good Luck and Best Regards, William

Thanks WWR...I am not sure if I fully understand your reply (please forgive my ignorance) but the connectors are the same, and I purchased a door module from a Vaden Plas because they come standard with power fold mirrors, and I am guessing the module is already coded to fold the mirrors.

Adam2fl;

I edited my first post to state "12 wires to the connector" where I formerly had "10 pin connector." (( my bad )) Take a look at the following post for mention of connector and number of wires: Does this mirror have power folding?

The point is: If you already have 12 wires to this door mirror connector just hook up one of the power folding mirrors (door closed) and double-click the Lock button on your key fob. This double click activates the folding mirror feature on cars that have folding mirrors. If you're lucky they will fold. If not, you have to determine if it is an electrical connection issue (between the mirror connector and Driver Door Control Module, or a software issue in the control module (there are some optional features on x350s that require software enable).

If you are lucky and the mirrors fold you then need to decide if you want the manual control button on the armrest. If the armrest connector is prewired I'd think all you have to do is swap out the armrest switchpack. Otherwise you'll need to run wires from the armrest switch back to the DDCM.

Let us know how it goes! Best Regards, William

The auto fold on double lock (deadlocks) has to be turned on via the touchscreen so you will probably need to activate this option with laptop.

I installed the power fold mirrors and the main window switch on the driver door that has the "fold" button, but nothing happened. In fact, now when I lock the doors with the remote, they are acting crazy now. When I press the lock button on the fob, the doors all lock and then immediately unlock. I tried to reprogram the key fob by using the "flash the bright lights" procedure, but that did not fix that issue.... Uhg! How do I use a laptop to code the mirror function?

Adam2fl;
Don't panic. I understand your frustration. The erratic behavior just means the control modules do not know how to process the inputs they are receiving with the existing programming. Assuming the key fob reprogramming didn't change anything, replacing the prior hardware (switch set & mirrors) should restore normal operation.

At this point you need someone whom has and knows how to use IDS or SDD to communicate with and enable the fold flat feature in your car's program. Many independent mechanics have this ability, seek someone whom has experience using it.

Please keep us updated..... this is a learning experience for me also.

Best Regards, William

Thanks WWR! I will have to take it to the Jaguar Doctor, here in Orlando. I know he will be able to program it. I will update this, once I am able to make it to his shop. Thanks again!! :-)

So I took it to the Jaguar Doctor, and the activated it in the computer, but it did not work. I purchased a front door control module from a wrecked Vanden plas because they have folding mirrors standard, I now need to install that module and take it back to them and see if they can get it working. On a good note, they were able to get my Global window closing activated so I can close the windows and sunroof with my remote control. I was always able to open them, but not close them. I had the same coding done to a BMW I used to own . I'll keep you updated

Adam2fl;
Good news on window control from the key fob!
I'd be curious to know the pn's on your two Driver Door Modules. Are they the same or different?

I'm assuming the wiring harness between the DDM and the mirrors is generic: but you might want to verify you have a Red (DD13-5) , and Yellow-Red (DD13-6) wire on the 26 pin (natural color ) DDM connector. These details are all illustrated in the Electrical Guide Fig 10.2, and Control Module Pin Identification section of the Electrical Guide (p 35 of the MY04 guide). These two color wires should run all the way to your mirror connectors.

Best Regards, William
