Default X358 starting issues (possible fueling)

Help guys, I've inherited my dad's diesel XJ with the 2.7. it's suddenly developed a starting issue. When firing up, whether it's cold or been running, it cranks over for ages before firing up. It seems better if I pump the throttle 3 or 4 time then put my foot to the floor, but still takes 7 or 8 seconds to fire. Once running it drives fine with no issues.
I've had it to a couple of garages. One says it's the high pressure fuel pump, the other says it could be the non-return valves on the end of the fuel rails.
Have any of you guys had similar problems or any idea what's going on.
Cheers guys.

Try posting in the UK jaguar forum.

I don't think that there are many diesels outside the UK.

Have had nothing to do with the jag diesel however on others it is often the glow plugs not working due to relay, fuse or bad plug.
