xj 350
I would love to own a an XJ X350/8 model although I can afford to buy one can I afford the running repair costs if things go wrong. I have about £100 a week to myself after paying all my bills. Am I fooling myself thinking I could run one. Thanks
Welcome to the forum! I don't see why you can't own and run an X350 if you buy one in good, well-maintained condition and keep it that way yourself. This thread will be a good place to begin your education: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-know-112913/
Please also visit our New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and post an introduction to give us some info about yourself and the kind of X350 you would most like to own. We'll look forward to hearing what you find!
Cheers,
Don
Hi Dino
I see you're in Sheffield, which I assume is the UK city, not anywhere else. Running costs for these cars centre on fuel consumption if you buy a petrol car like the 3 litre V6, (an excellent and reliable engine), and DPF and EGR valve problems if you buy the diesel.
In everyday use I get about 26 mpg with less in winter, when it can drop below 23 mpg. Diesels will be much better, well into the 30s, but can need attention when the DPF or the two EGRs block up. This happens when lots of short journeys are most of the use.
Maintenance at a Jaguar main agent will be costly, less so at a Jaguar specialist. Tyres last a very long time but obviously are large and fairly expensive, although you can fit Far East "Jo Noname" tyre without too much downside.
The suspension is air, and parts cost a lot but the short life part is the compressor, about £300 on the internet, but a DIY seal kit is available to repair this item that causes the failure.
Cars of 2003-2006 are now real bargains, but you must be aware that depreciation only affects the car, not the spare parts. Having said that, there is lots of stuff on the internet if you can DIY, also the independent Jaguar shops usually try to keep costs down and can fit aftermarket and used parts that is forbidden a Jaguar main agent
