Default XJ SV8 Blank Console Screen at lowish temperatures

I have a 2005 XJ SV8 in the Middle East and the console screen goes blank whenever the interior temperature drops below about 25 degrees C. At the same time there is no control over the radio apart from ON/OFF and volume, the A/C temperature and fan speed remain at last used settings and cannot be adjusted, also the front and rear windscreen heaters cannot be swithched on.

This problem has existed for a number of years and to date I've found no one, including the local agent workshops, that can offer a fix. Has anyone else had such a problem and found a cure?

The screen illumination is by means of a flourescent tube about 4 mm diameter.
It may be that this tube is no longer working.
A replacement tube may be available but you have to search.

wow tough question. Are you sure it's temp related? Are you in a position where you could apply heat near the screen with something like a hair dryer when it happens?

Thanks for your suggestion Meirion1. I will keep this in mind but suspect that as so many other features become inoperative at the same time that there must be a common electronic module that doesn't like to be cool (man).

Hi Sean, it's so predictable. In the cooler weather out here in the "UAE winter" it may be midday before the screen and associated console controls wake up. I'll put the hair drier suggestion to my workshop guys, but rather than the screen itself I'm suspecting there may be a common electronic module that is susceptible to low temperatures.

If you or any other enthusiasts have access to a schematic to determine the relationship between the screen and the surrounding console controls this may be a quick way of getting to the route cause.
