XJ8 turns over then stalls out
Hi, my '98 XJ8 starts up okay and runs for about 30 seconds before it stalls out. Battery is fully charged. Put an ODB reader on it, only code that comes back is the general code 1000.
Can anyone point me to what this might be? I don't think its fuel, car had a fuel pump installed about 8 months ago, has run fine up until now. Even if i rev the car up to about 2500 rpm in park it still conks out just takes a little longer than 30 seconds. everything looks fine under the hood, no leaks on the ground or anywhere.

P1000 is no help, it just tells you that you need to run the drive cycle. Totally guessing but plugged fuel filter? Could be a bad fuel pump, use a fuel pressure test gauge to find out.
just watched a couple of videos on youtube so it looks easy. good to go. will post results. for an xj8 vdp, the fuel filter is near the rear drivers side tire correct? (left hand drive car)
Just to close this thread out, my problems were a result of a bad fuel pump. Thing is I just had this replaced 10 months previously by a jag dealer here in Toronto. Second time around I took the car to fritz the jag doctor who showed me exactly what the dealer had gotten up too, they installed a used pump and jerry rigged the wiring. Fritz was able to show me the pump he pulled out and it was definitely not brand new compared to the one fritz installed. Needless to say another 800 dollars later and car is running fine. Lesson learned, have car towed to fritz even if it breaks down in dealers parking lot which is what happened last December.
