Default ZF Metal Pan Upgrade?

Hi all,

Now i've got my car back I've been taking a look at doing a big service including the gearbox pan and filter change.

My car has just clocked 64k miles, and I think a service may fix a couple of issues i'm starting to see in the transmission.

Now, as the title suggests I've come across a metal pan version with a changeable filter inside (listed as OEM metal transmission Sump modification kit ZF 6HP26), and im wondering if this would be a worthwhile upgrade on my Super V8. I assume the heat dissipation properties of the metal will aid with cooling the oil - but sufficiently to be worthwhile? My long term view will be to upgrade to the twin screw supercharger, so what do we think about the metal pan?

Cheers

Wish I'd known of that two transmission services ago. I'm going to have to look into it, myself.

I do hope that there are some knowledgeable replies.

You don't necessarily want it to cool the oil, that's what the existing cooler does. The oil is intended to be within set limits.

I don't see why you couldn't fit the metal pan either way, though. Costs more, as I recall.

The tranny has an oil cooler...and the pan is mostly covered by the undertray anyway, so not likely to get a whole lotta extra cooling. So, I don't see any performance reason to change it. If you like the way it looks, then that's just as good of a reason as any.

The plastic pans warp and start to leak. I'm on my second in 4 years. Maybe this metal one can last longer. Keep us posted.
