I've had two people, one a motor mechanic make reference to a distributor on my car. Surely by 1995 distributors, by which I mean cap, rotor arm contacts in cap etc were now history?

The X300 has coil on plug ignition.

 

The AJ16 has no dist.
It was replaced by a CMPS (Camshaft Position Sensor).
That is what is installed the Dist. hole.

I responded with something like "but surely my model doesn't have a distributor?". The mechanic then went very quiet. To be fair he has seen my car in the past but probably couldn't recall the year of manufacture.
