Default 1995 xj6

Hello I have a 1995 jaguar xj6 and it’s making this loud rumbling noise from the rear passenger tire. Thought it was the wheel bearing so I just replaced and it’s still there. Anyone know what else it could be?

There is a bearing in the center differential housing that the left and right short output shaft involve

Common on the X300

Welcome to the forums Thomas,

I see you followed Grant Francis' advice about a re-post so I've deleted your original from XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Also check the UJ's on the halfshaft.

Supposed to be greased as part of maintenance schedules but frequently ignored leading to failure.

Good suggestion on the UJ's. If you hear a a clunking noise when putting the car into drive or reverse it is further reason to suspect the joints.

Dont be so fast to condemn the side you "think" you hear it from. Reason i say this is because on mine i recently had a roar i know is a wheel bearing and would place money on right rear. But being a tech i put on lift, ran in gear and listened with mechanic stethoscope. I'll be damn rr totally quiet, it was left rear. So put on jack stands and use a stethoscope to listen. You'll be amazed at the accuracy of listening to the differing sounds from each area checked. Best of all theyre cheap at sears or harbour freight
