1995 XJ6 rear view mirror removal

1995 XJ6 rear view mirror removal

I bought an oem replacement rear view mirror for my wife's '95 XJ6, and I need to know how to remove the old one. There was apparently a vin# break in this model year for the mirror - mine is the round button type with a white connector. I have searched and searched and been unable to find removal instructions for this particular mirror, and I don't want to break anything in the process! Thanks.

Not sure if this is re the mirror you mean but it is for a 95 XJ(6?) 4.0

Disconnect vehicle battery ground lead.
Rotate mirror stem approximately one quarter turn clockwise to release stem from spring contact on windscreen boss.
Disconnect mirror harness.
To refit, locate mirror stem base on windscreen boss with stem parallel to top of windscreen, ie one quarter turn displaced from normal position; apply firmly over boss and turn anti-clockwise to lock stem on windscreen boss.
Refit in the reverse order of the removal procedure.

that last set of instructions is correct. I had to do the same thing because the liquid in mine exploded. the harness was a pain to disconnect because it is in the upper console. disconnect that first, then do the mirror
