Power steering pump question on 96 X300
hello, I own a 1996 X300 and I just had a remanufactued steering rack put in, everything seems fine, but when I am on higher speeds after 30mph+ when I make turns to the right I feel tension in the steering wheel, and I hear the pump get louder and make a wining noise, at lower speeds its fine. Is this a sign of the pump? Or can it be something else? The power steering fluid is full and there is no leaks. Thanks.
thasnks for the replay ken, but if there are no leaks coming from the rack where can it be going bad? I am going to take it for a test drive again and see if its from both sides or 1 side.
Leaks and poor steering are two different issues. If it were the pump, it wouldn't care which side you turned to, it wouldn't want to put out the pressure. If it's one side, it has to do with the valving or what have you internal to the rack.
+1 what Ken said. Sticky valve. This is why I hate remanufactured parts, racks and pumps in particular which I have gotten many faulty units. Try swapping out a rack 4 times in a Maxima! Royal PIA
