Hey everyone kinda new here but seem to be having a problem with my 1996 xj6 .... long story short just purchased it a month ago for a steal as battery was dead and owner couldn't get in the car .. popped a battery in after unfortunately drilling behind the plate and fired right up. Put 2500 km on the car over the last month and one day car was stiff to change gears and when it did change car wouldn't leave first gear and now no reverse ... also starts in every gear. Thinking it has something to do with the rotary neutral switch but unsure if that would cause me to lose reverse ??? Anyone have any ideas ??
With key in a certain position, I can't recall by slightly moving the shift lever out of the park gate you will feel a click on the ignition key barrel from the key barrel lock solenoid not in park switch system , so this directly test the not in park switch
There is the importance of replacing the not in park switch with the proper normal open or normal closed
