1996 XJ6....a few problems.
Hi guys and gals
Well I made the leap and purchased my very first Jag. A 1996 XJ6 with 108k miles and I absolutely love it. Paint was in immaculate condition and interior was damn good for a 15 year old car.
Now on to the problems. Well actually just a problem. The area where the glove compartment is (the complete molding) is coming undone. Is this a quick and easy fix or is do I need to get it replaced? It's not a big deal but it gets to be an eye sore for me
Secondly, the car did not come with an owners manual which sucks. I set my seat memory to my liking but every time I unlock my car the seat moves forward, mirrors adjust to someone elses view etc. It's just kind of annoying always having to press Memory 1 to get my car back to my specs.
Past that, love the car and can't wait to load the miles up on it.
Thanks!

The panel where the glove box is located is held in b screws. Are any missing?
On the side of the steering column are two knobs. One is for the panel lights an the other is for the easy-exit (or whatever they call it) system. It says "auto" and "off" or something like that. Anyhow, turn the knob to "off" or "normal" (or whatever the opposite of "auto" is) and your seats and steering wheel should stop moving around !
(I hate that feature myself. Very annoying, IMHO...not to mention extra wear on all the different motors).
Cheers

I'll check for those B screws for the panel. As for the seat moving, I fixed that too. I had to replace the battery when I bought the car and so that sent the car into wacky memory mode. Here is what I had to do (might work for you too)
-Open trunk
-Open driver side door
-Turn on ignition but not start engine
-Rock VALET switch 5 times
-Press LOCK button on alarm remote
-Close trunk and door and test
Worked like a champ. Apparently when you do that it sets the car into "learning mode" and pressing your LOCK button on the remote sets the cars memory to the 1st memory you have for the car seats. Give it a try and let me know how it works.

"B screws" in my earlier post was supposed to read ".......where the glove box is located is held in by screws....."
Sometimes my fingers don't think very well :-)
Good info on the resetting procedure. Odd, though, that I've never had to do it on mine even when the battery was removed/replaced. Perhaps because the system was "off" at the time? <shrug>
Cheers

Hi Roadhouse,
There are some coincidences in your post, and my experience. I just bought a 98 with about 130,000 miles, but couldn't play with it much because I spent the last 2 weeks in Tucson on business. Now that I'm home I'm having fun with it. The owners manual is available on the net, just do a google search.
