Default 1996 XJR 5-6 cylinders ar not working

Hello Guys,

I have a situation that engine is operating only on 4 cylinders.
Coils, sparks, injectors are checked by swaping them in to different places.
Coolant temperature sensor is operating as well.
Any ideas what to do next? What can cause such problem?

I have had a similar problem. It relates to cars being driven around town and no high-speed running.
There is a service bulletin relating to exhaust valves not seating due to exhaust residue build up caused by this sort of running.
Take it out on the open road and give it a serious thrashing.
I did about 80 ks at high revs in intermediate gears to burn off this residue.

In your spot of stumble under the bonnet ......................

The coil wires can easily be on the wrong place on the rear most # 6 and # 5

The # 6 has the Light Green / Purple wire

The # 5 has the Light Green / Orange wire

Check that you haven’t swapped the wiring around for coils 5 and 6. A very very common mistake, which the layout of the wiring and the connectors almost invites you to make.

Hello,

Thanks for guidelines. Problem was with swapped spark plug wires. Car is working correctly now!
