Default 96 XJ6/300 Shifter problem.....

hello I have been experiencing a shifter problem lately.... Sometimes when I start the car and I press on the brake I don't hear the click noise and I cant get the car from park into reverse or any gear. And then sometimes I can get the shifter into any gear without even putting my foot on brake, and the brake light on the back will stay lit on. Sometimes it will work fine, and sometimes it gives me problems. Does anyone know anything?? I have heard from a brake switch to a safety hazard switch to the selonid being old... But is it getting worse and worse... I am afraid that I will never get into gear in the future, lol!! Please Help!! Thanks.

hey brutal, thanks for the quick response. Do I need the actual brake switch with cruise control? Or do I need just the harness? Are these fairly easy to replace, ordo I have to take it to Jag, thanks....

its just the switch, some times youll even get a p1571 brake switch fault for a check engine light. Also you do know to leave the star button next to the shifter loose so if you ever cant get out of park you can remove it and stick something long in (like the jag key) to release and put in nuetral to start

If you ar \e replacing the switch, you will need the switch and the link lead. They are separate parts, the old ones were one piece.
