HELP with AC issue. In the past two weeks, I have replaced the dryer and high pressure hose. When the system is charged, both the high and low gauge shoot up to 400....way too high. My mechanic is telling me the only other solution is to replace the expansion valve...but this requires the total dash to come out. Is there any other thing that could be wrong??

 

Ken, thank you for your response. I will check with my mechanic to see if he needs the part or already has it. Do you know how to access the expansion valve on the 96 XJ? Does the dash need to come out or can you pull out the radio/AC-heat electronic control panel and access through the center console?

 

Well, in the end, the mechanic decided to replace the high pressure switch and then the AC worked great! No leaks and no tearing apart the dash. Good lessen for us all!
