Default 96 XJR6 supercharged -- worth exploring?

i may be interested in checking this out from a local ad... Only issues seller is disclosing in the ad is the sunroof, front seat and "tranny sensor".

The transmission sensor is the thing that would be most concerning. What could that indicate, and what kind of money pit might that be? The buyer's guide Doug posted in the fAQ section for this forum didnt point out any notorious tranny problems for these.

heres how the ad reads:
96 jaguar xjr
4.0L in line 6cyl supercharged
112xxx original miles
clean NM title
owners manual
black exterior and body(good)
black leather interior(driver seat has damage)
black hazlenut wood trims
front and rear seat warmers
sport suspension
sport 17" alloy wheels
rear wheel drive
moonroof(needs work)
pl/pw/pm/ps/pst
am/fm/cd/6cd changer
harman premium sound
smoked tail lights
new mobil 1 oil
new oil filter
new spark plugs
new transmission fluid(needs tranny sensor)
new battery
new brakes
new k&n filter

car is super fasssst runs smooth and turns heads everywhere you go, you can just hear the roar of the supercharger car is super strong no engine problems or any leaks is been well maitained all it needs is a tranny sensor wich i dont have time or money to fix...

Worth investigating further?

The 4L80E transmission has two speed sensors that often give trouble. Easy fix, if that's all there is to it. A couple hours DIY labor and maybe $100 or less for parts.

A weak trans mount allows too much movement and stretches the wiring harness....which can often be misdiagnosed as a sensor problem.

The X300 sunroofs have problems.....can't rememeber the details but there's something in there that always breaks. A plastic run channel or something like that.

What "damage" has been done to the driver's seat?

Cheers

im still thinking on this -- he's now dropped the price considerably, though i am aware as you've pointed out in your buyer's guide , Doug, that "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Jaguar."...

And I stand by those words :-)

But, if you set aside a chunk of cash for repairs and can provide DIY labor it might end up being a decent deal.....if the repairs don't involve major projects: trans overhaul, differential overhaul....major jobs like that.

Cheers

well, the DIY auto mechanic skill set is not something I possess -- im lucky if i can hold a screwdriver properly, lol -- so that is a consideration. I have a deposit on a 2005 X Type, low miles, that will serve me and my skill set better, though at three times the price, it should

still, at $2750, this may be interesting.

I had the drivers seat redone for $600 and BTW IT IS NOT ALL LEATHER
you can find a repair guy and spend less if he "don't have to buy a whole cow"
Also had the broken seat mount welded $90, worth it.
Have a guy that knows Jags look at it. I have $1800 in the front end and worst of all; the local genius could not figure out the EMC problem, replaced it and the
four O2 sensors. I love mine and I would buy that car if my wife was not well armed and fed up.

Hadn't heard that the x-types are known for their reliability......but if you need the AWD, and want the beauty and mystique of the Jag, well then, go for it.

My 95 X300 has proven more reliable than the wife's 2005 S-type, fwiw.

They are lovely aren't they! By the time you have 10K in the car it will be
a $10K car and that can't be said about most others.
Let us know how it looks.
