Evening all - I'm getting to the end of my refurb on my 1994 X300: this weekend springs and spring-seat replacement. With that done its about all I'll likely do to the car as the paintwork I'll probably leave as it is

I've been looking at the possibility of buying another of these cars in a lot better overall condition since I have enjoyed the XJ6 3.2 so much but generally speaking I am seeing mainly V8 versions. They have more HP and look as good but I am concerned that the engines may not be as bullet proof as the older AJ16 which seems to have a genuine Jaguar heritage (for better of worse!) vs. a Ford derived V8.

Any opinions on this?

 

Skip 1998 to 2002 XJ8 due to timing chain plastic tensioners. 2004-2008 XJ8 are very reliable except for air suspension system. S-type 3.0 V6 from 2003 and forward are cheap and rides better then earlier 1994 to 1997 XJ6. I have 1997 XJ6, 2004 XJ8, and 2003 S-type in my garage.

 

Try an XJR6; loads of grunt and (usually) not as troublesome as the V8 ones.
