Well, two days ago, some woman drove into my jag. I was at a halt, and got hit in the rear - therefore it was 100% her fault, and I will be getting it fixed by her insurance. I'm also certain she was on her phone, as I got out of the car immediately and saw her with her phone in her hand. As here are not many x300's where I live, it will probably be really hard to find new parts - or maybe the car is declared condemned.

Anyhow, I am now officially Jag-less for at least a month or two ..

And before you ask; nobody was harmed

 

On the phone ........and made no attempt to brake by the extent of the damage.

The speed limit was 50 km/h (around 30 mph), so she should have been able to brake to a halt. But no ... apparently not.

 

Hopefully your car is not written off. But karma demands that her car be a total writeoff.

Very well made, easy to install. On cars, use it with the high mounted stop light. Also flashes the reverse lights when in reverse. Use the "blink 5 then steady" mode to avoid being too annoying.

Most drivers will drop back or change lanes after seeing it a couple of times.

 

sorry to tell you the bad news,but i watch a lot of jags on the salvage sites.i've seen alot less damage to them and they still get totaled.if new parts can't be found it gets totaled.labor acounts for alot also,it costs $80 and up per hour at body shops.all is not lost if you'd really like to keep it,deal with insurance co., keep the car and find parts to fix,and a small shop to repair it...steve.

 

Labor costs in Norway are a lot higher than $80.. I'm looking at around $175 an hour. The car will probably be written off. Most likely I will get an answer from the insurance company tomorrow or on wednesday.

 

I am upset to see this nice car was damaged but it is repairable and no one was hurt , that's another good thing

 

Cars can be rather expensive here in Scandinavia, so I am not sure it will be a write off. Of course Norway isn't the most expensive country, but my Danish 1995 XJR was US$ 32.000 (yes, count those zero's!) at the dealer when I got it last year, so I guess it could be somewhat expensive in Norway too?

 

I payed $26 000 for mine , also a 1995 XJR. So yeah,cars in scandinavia are indeed expensive

 

The good thing about the high price is, that the former owner took better care of his car, as it was rather expensive. Also there's a better chance it will be fixed in cases like yours, instead of being scrapped. The only downside of the high price is, that we paid about 10 times as much as most users here!

So, unless your frame is bent, I think it will be fixed.

Austria is also a real rip off market with most things (except food and petrol!) costing a good 50%-100% more than in other EU countries, despite having the same taxes.

I get most of my parts from the UK, even with the postage it's normally a good 25-50% cheaper than Austrian prices.


I hope you get her fixed up soon with no hassles.

 

Just got the answer; it will cost $20 000 to fix my car. This is of course because of the Norwegian labour rates ... Have to wait a couple of more days before the insurance company makes up their mind about fixing it or scrapping it.

A $20 000 repair on a $26 000 retail value vehicle is likely to be an insurance write off in any country. Horrendous buying and repair costs you have in Norway.

Wow! That is worse than I thought. A complete respray must be included, for the price to reach that high. Could end up being a positive thing, if they do decide to fix it.

In Denmark it would be a gonner. Anything above 40% of the value and they have to scrap it. Why? So you are forced to buy a new car and pay the 180% car tax. Scandinavia is a funny place

I do not know yet. There are not many jaguars on the market in Norway at the moment, but of course I will check if there are any I would like to own.

I have also been looking in to different leasing alternatives, but haven't found anything tempting yet. Maybe the GT 86 from toyota, but it would probably be a huge difference from the XJR.. Jags simply have that special feeling you look for in cars, you know.

That is just unbelievable. I LOVE Canada more everyday. I just about bought a 1996 XJR for $5,000 just to have it. Sorry for your loss but...Wow!
