Default Antenna problem

Hello everyone,
my antenna stopped going up and down. The motor runs.
I purchased a new antenna (I've replaced it before).
I fed the new plastic gear rope into the motor and turned off the radio. It wouldn't pull the rope down very far.
When I compare the 2 toothed ropes, the old one is about 8 inches shorter than the new one.
I guess some of it broke off in the motor.
What next? How do I remove the broken piece?

It is a bit of a pain, but the motor unit can be dismantled to allow the extraction of the broken piece. Sort of intuitive once you have it off, and fiddly.

There's a relevant video link in post #2 of this thread:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...cement-217081/

Although it's in XK8/XKR forum, the video is of an X308. X300 antenna motor is similar. Disassembling the motor begins at 7 minutes.

I’ve taken apart the motor. Cleaned out all of the old grease. Should I just put it back together and spray white lithium grease on the gears?

I would be inclined to. Trying to preload the antenna "tail" is very fiddly, and it is easier to use the motor to do it once it is reinstalled.

Problem repaired!
I took the motor apart. Removed the piece of the plastic toothed gear rope. Cleaned out all of the old grease. Reassembled it and sprayed it with white lithium grease. Installed the new antenna and it works great! Now, I just need to install the new rubber grommet that just arrived.
Thank you all for your help!

Having replaced many of these antenna over the past 30 odd yrs on both XJ6 series 3 and my present X306, I have since moved to a more modern & reliable fix.
Photo attached.
Only for the non purists though, involves drilling a hole in the roof and make sure you have a good earth on the antenna.
