Antenna Replacement

Antenna Replacement
Hi,
My antenna refused to retract from nearly full extension, so I purchased a replacement mast from one of the usual suspects. Upon installation, the mast will re-tract but leaves about 120mm extended out of the fender. My deduction is that some portion of the toothed tape has broken off and remains inside the motor, taking up space where the new, complete tape should be when retracted. My further deduction is that my next job will be to open up the motor, remove the remnant of toothed tape, and re-assemble.
Has anyone else had this occur, and am I on the right track?
Thanks in advance for confirmation or re-direction.

My Antenna stopped going up more than about 6"...So I pushed it down until it was sticking up about an inch.....Then I drove down to my Jaguar Guy and in 10 minutes it was working perfectly again....All that for 100 Bucks...They even re-oiled it for free.....It was a hard job as I had to help them...They asked me to get inside and Turn-on the Radio and then they ask me to turn it off! Amazing, it seems to be working again!
