Hello all,

Very randomly and not very often (2 - 4 per month), my car will seemingly fire itself into neutral. It usually happens while on highway, but it has happened a couple times while going 10 - 25 mph. Usually, I just pull over and turn the engine off and re-start and all is well...until it happens again. Sometimes a transmission light appears on top left of dash....but usually clears itself after a bit. On occasion when this problem occurs, I move gear selector to 'Neutral', then to '2nd' or '3rd' gear and then back to 'Drive' and sometimes by doing that I can avoid having to pull over.

After a bit of research, I think the problem may lie within the transmission control module (TCM). It may just be as simple as cleaning the electrical connections. I know where it is located and it seems simple enough to remove.

Has anyone here had similar issues? Anyone removed TCM before? Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

I think it more likely the problem is with the switches/connections to the transmission, or maybe the selector cable needs adjusting.
If you want to clean the connections on the tcm as taking on the easiest job first, just disconnect the ground cable from the battery and touch it to the positive terminal for a few seconds. This will discharge the capacitors in the multitude of modules and avoid damaging voltage spikes.

Good advice, thank you. I suppose I must remove ski-slope area to access selector cable? As far as switches/connections to transmission, I don't really know. I'm sure a search on that will point me in the right direction.

If you go to the Sticky X300 'How To' quick links just above the messages you will be able to download the parts manual and service manual. Or on ebay you can probably buy the Jaguar Heritage X300 parts and service manual on CD. That will make it easier.
Use the search function on this forum and you will probably find a lot of information, also.
