Default bad power steering ?

Hello.
today right immediately after a deep acceleration starting at the traffic light the steering wheel started shaking a little bit, you could feel it with the hands on it, and it was at the same time making a noise that you could feel inside the car when moving the steering wheel. Also the steering wheel was harder to move. I turned the engine off, I waited 5 minutes I started the engine again,
and seems like things went back to normality. I just can feel a vague noise if I am by the open hood, when I move the steering wheel from the opened window of the driver side.
What may have happened ?
power steering going bad ?

There are nylon shims to place in the gap between the main horizontal casting and the mounting casting that you can install without removing the rack . If you look straight down from the top of the engine compartment you can see the gap like on mine .See the pic below with the wire twist holding the spacer in place : Have you replaced the 20 year old fluid as this removes the noise beyond the mechanical aspect ?

you are right I think the power steering fluid has never been flushed.
The noise becomes more NOISY if I do "burnouts", I mean I strongly accelerate from idle. I did a recording of the noise (when is not really noisy).
the phone to record the noise is placed inside the engine compartment.
At second 0:08 I start steering all the way to the left, at 0:15 I start steering all the way to the right.
Maybe I Should flush the oil. is it a DIY thing ?

First things first. Flushing the fluid is a great idea, but....

Have you checked the fluid level ?

Cheers

Fluid change is the first thing and can be done by removing the hose from the bottom of the reservoir and drain / refill several times after you cycle the steering for a while between to remix the old and new .

Yeh, check the level, and look for leak from the in-out hoses connected to the power-steering fluid bottle. I had a few moments losing power steering when cornering in a multi-storey parking lot. These happened after flushing the power steering fluid as part of normal maintenance; the culprit was later found to be bad hose leaking from the metal ring. Old hoses tend to harden and break at the pressure points. Fortunately, it wasn't the power steering pump.

ok as Doug has foreseen power steering fluid was really low, was not even possible to see it on the dip stick. I sucked out the old power steering fluid from the reservoir,
and I put new Valvoline Dextron III transmission fluid. I'll see how it goes.
The big noise dissapeared anyway I is still possible to hear the power steering working when you move the steering wheel, but I guess it's normal.
There may be a leak in the reservoir but it is not evident. I can't see leaking on the ground or from any power steering system pipe right now.

Suck the fluid out again after a few hours, refill with new, obviously.

Do this 4 or 5 times in the next few days, and get the concentration of NEW fluid in teh whole system back to spec.

Mostly that sorts the noises.

Same procedure with the transmission, and that gets the trans much happier than a ZF on stale old fluid. Takes about 6 drop and refills on the trans to get that fluid freshened up through the whole system.

You can change the seals on the ends of the steering rack without removing the rack .

I had my oil sump replaced last year so had the whole subframe out and all the old oil out of the rack too. I had the same steering rack noise that you posted in your video and that's now completely gone with the new fluid.
