battery goes completely dead
I have 95 XJR , 119,000 on the clock , all the sudden my battery runs completely dead !! Anyone heard of this before ? Also the door open idiot light stays on ??? I cant find switches that get depressed when the door closes.
Getting frustrated with this Cat , thinking it might make a good bon fire !!!! [sm=badbadbad.gif]
Any help would be appreicated

Sorry to hear you're getting frustrated. Sounds like you either have a current draw or an old battery. If your battery isn't old, then buy/borrow a basic meter. What you'll need to do is take off the positive battery cable, and use the meter leads to make the connection. Set the meter to measure amperage, then pull fuses until the amps drop. Your draw will be in that circuit, and you can start pinpointing it from there. I haven't had any experience with the door sensors, hopefully someone else can help you with that. It could be the current drain.

The battery is new !!! In fact when I replaced the battery the car woundnt start !!! It just cranked , I finally broke down and bought a scan tool . It was the crank shaft position sensor . NOW !!!! The battery runs dead . Anyway !!! I appreciate the info from you gentleman! .
I will let you know the out come .[&:]

RE: battery goes completely dead
I had the same issue on my 1995 XJR where a low battery voltage (10.5V) would not allow me to start the car.
If battery is newishbut charge is low for whatever reason, try the following:-
1) Ensure battery has been fully charged because the ignition key excitor coil appears to be voltage sensitive, thereby affecting the immoboliser system and the car won't start (starter motor won't turn over).
2) With a multimeter measure battery voltage with ignition switch "off". Should be =>12.3Volts
3) Hopefully you'll get the car started and thenlook at multimeter. At idle rpm, the voltage should rise to over 13.5Volts, generally in the region of 14-14.5Volts as the engine rpm rises. If this is the case, even after switching "on" all other electrical loads (lights, rear demist, A/C etc), then your alternator is OK.
4) If however the voltage reads <13Volts, especially when heavily loaded and running @ ~ 2,500rpm, then the alternator is faulty and won't keep your battery fully charged over time.
I discovered two things with my XJR to cause my starting problems: a) the alternator voltage regulator was faulty thereby not providing the necessary charging current over a period of time and b) the dash light's remained on after turning off the ignition (a small control module fault, corrected by simply turning the dash lights off at the dimmer switch on the steering column). These dashlights, even at such a low wattage, drained an already low battery overnight, to a point where the said ignition key excitor coil (tell's the immoboliser that a key is present in the ignition switch) would not "energise".
After charging the battery on a trickle charge over 24 hours (don't ever boost charge a battery, always trickle charge it) and afterreplacing the alternator, everything was well again.

RE: battery goes completely dead
Ok , I put a ampmeter to measure the amperage draw, at first it was 2.70 but I realized the trunk and interior lights were on . I latched the trunk lock to turn off the lights , it now measures 1.70 . Still substantial . I started checking circuits by pulling fuses in the trunk. The first row starting from right to left , I pull up to the 5th fuse from the right and the meter dropped to 0.06 . A lot more acceptable but the car doesnt start with the fuse out . Does anybody know what is on that circuit ( 10 amp ) I dont have an owners manual .
Thanks for your help

No I sure don't , I have I think a Auto Zone battery( brand new , I know auto zone ). Is there a difference ??
Im a Optima battery fan but have bought one until I figure out whats up. I think Ive traced it to the driver door but not certain. If I leave the key in the ignition and close the door , the chime reminder keeps chiming with engine off.[&:]

Yeah, like some said, it's the microswitch in the latch. Mine went bad two years ago, it wouldn't lock the drivers door when engaging reverse or drive.I paid the dealer $700 to replace it.

RE: battery goes completely dead
there is a ground point that is draining the amps out of your baterry even when park, you need to locate the point where there is wire that is unnecessarily grounded. For the Door light, there is a door light switch located in the same area as the door stopper (front side of the door)replace, it is similar to many other car make, a universal type will always fit in too ( no crilling necessary) that should address the door light issue.

What year is your jag ??? I suspect I will be replacing the latch but check it thoughly . The lock switch works ( windows ) .
Thanks
