Battery Vent Attachment

Battery Vent Attachment
I recently discovered that my parents have no vent tube attached to the battery in their X300. It's been that way for years.
The battery (like every other battery I've seen) has vent sockets at both ends. I'm confused as to whether I need to plug up the end that will not have the tube attached - the battery didn't come with any such plugs. I've seen other batteries that do include a plastic plug to blank off one end, but then my X300 (which always had a vent tube attached) doesn't seem to have any plug on the other end.
I'm not sure whether some batteries have some kind of internal mechanism to blank off the unused vent, or whether you're supposed to supply a plug...
Any suggestions?
And here is a picture of one of the vent sockets:

An OE Jaguar battery comes with BOTH vent sockets fitted with blanking plugs (circled in red on the RH side):
The 'L' shaped vent pipe adaptor is in a separate packet. When the battery is fitted, the LH blank plug is removed, discarded and replaced with the 'L' shaped vent pipe adaptor (arrowed in red on the LH side):
There MUST be a blank plug fitted to the RH side or fumes can vent directly into the luggage compartment.

OK, so I'm guessing the blanks, adaptor and tube must have gone AWOL at purchase. I've found a spare blank on a dead battery, but does anyone know where to get those special adaptors on their own? The one this battery is socketed for is more than just an L shaped tube, it's got a fat body that fits into that oval socket (as pictured above) - my car already has one, and it seems to have some kind of filter in it.
EDIT: Here's a picture of the adaptor I'm looking for:
As you can see, it fits onto a plain socketed battery as well, but it's specifically designed for the type of socket pictured in my first post.
